Coronavirus: Helpful Information

Effective August 3, 2021, face masks are required for everyone ages 2 and up regardless of vaccination status. We will continue to monitor and comply with the latest CDC and IDPH recommendations.

  • No Browsing Limit: Visit the Library for as long as you'd like.
  • Food and Drink: Enjoy food and drinks in the Vending Cafe only. Covered drinks are allowed in other areas.
  • Computer Use Time: Use a computer on the Lower Level at your convenience. No appointment necessary. Priority to Niles-Maine cardholders.
  • Book a Study Room: Book a study room with others on the Lower Level. Book here!
  • Have a Seat: Please enjoy more furniture options all around the Library.
  • KidSpace: For the safety of the patrons and staff, everyone who visits KidSpace must wear a mask during their visit. Computers are available, but limited due to social distancing. Study rooms will be closed until further notice.
  • Middle Ground: Middle Ground will be closed until further notice.
  • Read a Newspaper: Newspapers are available for reading on the Third Floor.
  • Services Expansion: Test proctoring services and Notary Public are available. Details here!
  • Passport Services: Schedule an appointment here!


Open Hours:

Monday-Thursday: 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.

Fridays: 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.

Saturdays: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sundays: 12-5 p.m.

Pick up your materials in Lobby, or via the No Contact Holds Pick-Up service Monday-Friday, 9:45 a.m.-Closing and Saturdays, 9:45 a.m.-5 p.m in the Vestibule.

What Library Staff are Doing to Protect You

  • 90% of staff members are fully vaccinated.
  • Staff members will be wearing face masks, washing their hands, and keeping a social distance.
  • Staff members will sanitize high touch areas using EPA approved COVID-19 disinfectants throughout the day.

What You Can Do to Protect Staff & Other Patrons

  • Wear your face mask.
  • Wash your hands.
  • Keep a social distance apart from others.
  • Supervise children ages 13 and under.

I can't wear a face mask or covering. What should I do?

Can I browse the collection and check out materials?

Yes! There are no limits to how long you can stay in the Library.

I have a library card from another library. Can I use Express Checkout?


I need to pick up materials I have on hold. What should I do?

You may pick up your materials inside the building during open hours. If you are interested in using the No Contact Holds Pick-Up service, click here for more information.

I need to return my checked out materials. Where should I return them?

The indoor and outdoor automated returns are open at the main entrance.
